March 2019: So Much to Celebrate in Human Services

March 2019: So Much to Celebrate in Human Services

March celebrates a number of important populations and advocacy on critical issues. MediSked joins with people across the US and the world to acknowledge these messages and raise awareness during this important month.

National Developmental Disability Awareness Month

First proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1987, DD Awareness Month is an opportunity to celebrate individuals with developmental disabilities, to share their stories, and to show the value that inclusion brings to our communities. This is also a chance to shed light on the obstacles that many people still face and how we can all work together to be more inclusive and accepting.

National Brain Injury Awareness Month

For more than three decades, the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) has proudly led the nation in observing Brain Injury Awareness Month by conducting an engaging public awareness campaign in March of each year. The theme for the 2018 to 2020 campaign is Change Your Mind.

The #ChangeYourMind public awareness campaign provides a platform for educating the general public about the incidence of brain injury and the needs of people with brain injuries and their families. Individuals who join us to help raise awareness with the #ChangeYourMind campaign are essential to:

  • De-stigmatizing brain injury through outreach within the brain injury community
  • Empowering those who have survived brain injury and their caregivers
  • Promoting the many types of support that are available to people living with brain injury

Women’s History Month

The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. National Nutrition Month

National Nutrition Month® is an annual nutrition education and information campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign, celebrated each year during the month of March, focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

March is also home to International Women’s Day

Happy celebrating!
